I have been using this new software that plugs in to outlook for a few month, and things have worked out pretty well with its operations and performance. It is called Xobni, (Inbox spelled in reverse). It has a lot of features for contact management and search capability within outlook. You can install at own risk to your computer. Just make sure you run the first index at beginning, depending how large is your inbox. I do not recommend the install at corporate offices, because the IT person will uninstall it, it is not supported if you start getting errors and then your outlook at work will be down.

Microsoft Word 2007

This is a cool tip from Microsoft:

“Generate Random Text in Word 2007
On a blank line in a Microsoft Office Word document, type =rand followed by (PC,SC)—where PC stands for paragraph count and SC stands for sentence count—and then press ENTER. For example, =rand(2,3) will create two paragraphs of three sentences each.
Word inserts some random text based on your specification. You can use this new text for testing form controls such as text boxes or paragraph alignments.”

Microsoft Excel 2007

Tip from Microsoft:

“How many times have you walked to the printer and discovered that your Microsoft Office Excel 2003 worksheet didn’t print as you expected? You can use the Page Break Preview view in Excel 2003 to scale your data to particular pages, but a more realistic preview of the printed page would be helpful. Page Layout view in Microsoft Office Excel 2007 presents an exact representation of the printer output of your worksheet. Page Layout view also makes it easy for you to add headers and footers to your worksheet by simply typing the text where you want it to appear. To use Page Layout view, click the View tab, and then click Page Layout in the Workbook Views section.”

Windows 7 Release Date

Last week I was informed that the official release of Windows 7 is around end of October this year, so I think the release is on target before holiday season. So what is in it for everyone? Hopefully a newer and better operating system that is more compatible and hassle free. So you ask should I upgrade or not? This all depends on your environment, network, and applications you use. I can say if you are a home user and buying a new pc, you should go with Windows 7. If you are in an office network, it may raise some questions of compatability which can be solved by your IT consultant before an upgrade takes place.

My Virtualized Server

I just finished installing my Windows 2008 server with virtualization. I am very excited about this operating system and its new features. I spent all last week configuring it. Its exactly what I was reading about for past few weeks. I am in the process of getting it ready so I can install Windows 7 as virtualized on this platform, so far so good. So stay tune and come back soon for more details on the new operating system. Hopefully I can make some time to install the new operating system and see what it can do.

Windows 7

Hey everyone I just downloaded Windows 7 RC and I am installing it on my virtualized server.
I wanted to see this new operating system and how it loads and works compare to Windows Vista. And I say it is great and much better than previous operating system. The load was very fast and installed. Lots of new features, the one I liked the most was the ability to record your errors and problems on the screen and send it to your IT support for further analyze and troubleshooting. The other feature, you can run windows XP on top of your Windows 7 operating system. I have not tested this yet, I will comment on this later.

Virtualization for your Network

Virtualization is one of my favorite topics that I am working on these days. Who knew, you are able to install a server and then install a bunch other operating systems in the same machine and therefore virtualize those new operating systems. This topic has fascinated me and everyday I am learning something new. My goal is to figure out how to achieve virtualization for SMB network and offer this solution to my clients so we can achieve server disaster recovery in place for important servers that are in production. Imagine that you can have a standby virtualized server available; and in case your main server goes out, just recover your data to the virtualized server and be up and running in no time until you fix your main server problem. The use of this technology is endless, and everyone can have a different take on it. Some other examples, virualized a server so you can run your old applications, consolidates your servers and save, run different applications or functions on virtualized server; less hardware, save energy. Considering all factors I give this technology a thumbs up.

Another Tip from Microsoft
Register Your Regular E-Mail Contacts as Safe Senders
Here’s how to designate anyone you send mail to as a safe sender:
1. Click Actions, point to Junk E-mail, and then click Junk E-mail Options.
2. On the Safe Senders tab, select the Automatically add people I e-mail to the Safe Senders List check box.

Now anyone you send an e-mail message to will be designated a safe sender.

Smarter Navigation in Word
You may already know that in Microsoft Office Word, the up-and-down double arrows below the vertical scroll bar will page up and down through an open document. But you might not know that you can use the Select Browse Object button (the little dot) below the vertical scroll bar to change the function of the double-arrow buttons and of the CTRL+PAGE UP and CTRL+PAGE DOWN keyboard shortcuts. You can, for example, choose to browse by heading, which means the buttons will automatically move the cursor up or down to the next heading. Other choices include browsing by footnote, endnote, comment, graphic, or table.
